Prothom Alo and other national dailies are spreading lies about the ‘number of cancellation of nominations’

News Desk: Prothom Alo, Daily Star, Naya Diganta, Shangram are the most popular national daily newspapers of Bangladesh. But, they are now spreading wrong information regarding the cancellation of the candidates of 11th National Parliamentary Election. Prothom Alo and other aforementioned dailies published that, total 786 nominations have been cancelled by the returning officers. But, it is a wrong information. Experts said that, they are concerned because these dailies are spreading wrong information.

Prothom Alo and other dailies published that, 28 November was the last day of submitting the nominations. In total 3 thousand and 65 nomination forms were submitted. Among them 786 forms were cancelled. But, 713 nominations were revoked because of corruption, being defaulters. But, these dailies added extra 73 candidates.

According to the election commission 713 candidacy have been cancelled. 96 of them were from Awami League (1- Zakir Hossain, Kurigram-4 (Rajibpur-Roumari) and other 95 were rebel candidates), 145 candidates from BNP, 20 candidates from Jamaat-e-Islami, 55 candidates from Jatiyo Party and 397 candidates from other different political parties.

Meanwhile, political analyst Bibhu Ranjan Sarker said, “I think it is a crime to put wrong information for a newspaper like Prothom Alo. They should have validated their information. It will confuse the people. I think government should have investigated that whether they have any other intention for falsifying the news. Government should be aware so that people cannot spread confusing news or something like that.”

It is to be informed that, aspirants whose nomination were cancelled by the Returning Officers they can appeal to the Election Commission about their decisions by 3rd December to 5th December. Election Commission will review their appeals and will provide their verdict by 6th December to 8th December. Besides, those aspirants whose nominations have been accepted, those can be challenged as well to Election Commission. Involved lawyers can disclose their logic in the hearing of the Election Commission.

9th December is the last day of withdrawing the nomination. Election symbols will be selected by 10th December. The parliamentary election will held on 30th December.
